David Ziegele -- Fingerstyle Guitar |
| Tablature to Ten Wayne Henderson Solo Guitar Early in December, Hal Leonard Corporation published a book of ten of my transcriptions of Wayne's tunes, with an accompanying CD. Six of the tunes are from Made & Played, and are therefore included in the earlier tab book (see below). Four of the tunes are outtakes from Made & Played, so this is the first time they've been available on CD. The tab to one of the tunes, "Lime Rock," was in the Made & Played tab book, but the tabs to three others--"Snowflake Reel," "Fisher's Hornpipe," and "Twinkle Little Star"--have never been published before. I am not currently selling the book/CD via this website. It is now available at a variety of music and book stores. Here's the link to Elderly Instruments' listing: Wayne Henderson--Bluegrass Guitar
Tablature Book for Wayne Henderson’s CD Made & Played Transcribed for Flatpicking and Fingerstyle Guitar by David Ziegele Available at Elderly Instruments via this page.
Musician and guitar-builder Wayne Henderson has won the guitar competition at the Galax Old Fiddler’s Convention more than a dozen times. He has toured America three times as a featured performer in the Masters of the Steel String Guitar tours, played at the White House and Carnegie Hall, and toured Europe, Asia, and Africa. He was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship in 1995 and was the subject of Allen St. John's 2005 book Clapton's Guitar: Watching Wayne Henderson Build the Perfect Instrument. Made & Played is Wayne Henderson’s first solo guitar recording and this book contains the first set of note-for-note transcriptions of Wayne’s playing. The book has 87 pages of tablature, a foreword by Allen St. John, an introduction to Wayne's guitar style and techniques, and a brief guide on reading tablature. I transcribed all 19 tunes from the CD and added a bonus tune of Wayne's version of the fiddle tune "Lime Rock." ("Lime Rock" was recorded during the sessions for Made & Played, but wasn't included on the CD. Click here to listen to an .mp3 file of Wayne's performance of "Lime Rock.") Five of the tunes work best in fingerstyle (because they're played in either alternating-thumb or Carter-style) and the others can be either flatpicked or fingerpicked as Wayne does. While few of us have Wayne’s amazing technical ability, I’ve found that his arrangements are fun to learn and entertaining to play, at whatever tempo each of us can play them at. They will enhance the repertoire of any folk, bluegrass, or old-time guitarist. Click here to read about Wayne's playing style. FEATURES Over many years as a consumer of tab books, I've identified the features that the best books have, and have tried my best to incorporate them into this one.
